Artist Talk with Nazilya Nagimova: on the artistic practice with wool and felt

Organized in collaboration with the Bölme School, Nazila Nagimova's artist talk explores felt as a living material that blends traditional craftsmanship, contemporary artistic expression, and the artist's personal experience. In the talk, the artist will discuss her felt-making methods, its sculptural possibilities, and how the material explores themes of memory, the body, and nature.

Short bio:
Nazilya was born in 1982 in Kazan, Tatarstan, and has lived in Germany since 2004. She studied at the Kazan Art School and the Academy of Fine Arts in Münster.

In her work, Nazilya primarily uses felt and textile as her primary artistic mediums, exploring themes such as memory, identity, origin, and cultural heritage.

Her recent exhibitions include projects with Nika Project Space, participation in documenta fifteen with Davra Collective, and presentations at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), Center for Heritage, Arts & Textiles (Hong Kong), Institut des Cultures d'Islam (Paris), and Fondazione Giorgio Cini (Venice).

About Bölme:

Bölme, an interdisciplinary school for cultural practitioners, is a non-profit initiative founded in 2023 by Kazakhstani professionals from the fields of architecture, visual arts and management. As an educational platform, Bölme was created to blur the boundaries between artistic disciplines. The school brings together architectural, artistic, design, applied and theoretical approaches with the aim of equipping young practitioners with conceptual and critical thinking skills, both in addressing social challenges and in the visual arts.

The Bölme School 2026 programme is being implemented thanks to the support of the international ALIPH Foundation and co-funding from the European Union, SÄR Foundation and Danagul Tolepbay.
