Program and Registration

In this event organized in collaboration with the Bölme School, artist and architect Meder Akhmetov will discuss the evolution of his interdisciplinary practice.

Meder Akhmetov will talk about his encounter with the urban planner and methodologist Orozumbekov, who had a significant influence on him. Orozumbekov introduced Akhmetov to the concepts of composition, structural grids and the urban fabrics. During the talk, Meder will present his illustrations of this experience. The artist will then discuss his studies at the DIA Dessau Institute of Architecture in Dessau, where he was introduced to the concepts of critical theory and emergent architecture. Upon returning to Bishkek after completing his master’s degree, Akhmetov joined the studio of architect and curator Ulan Japarov, marking another interesting point in his practice. It was here that he developed an interest in objects, and subsequently, through his reading of Harman’s philosophy, he incorporated this type of aesthetic practice into his own work.

The event will be held in Russian.

About Bölme: ‘Bölme’, an interdisciplinary school for cultural practitioners, is a non-profit initiative founded in 2023 by Kazakhstani professionals from the fields of architecture, visual arts and management. As an educational platform, Bölme was created to blur the boundaries between artistic disciplines. The school brings together architectural, artistic, design, applied and theoretical approaches with the aim of equipping young practitioners with conceptual and critical thinking skills, both in addressing social challenges and in the visual arts.

The Bölme School 2026 programme is being implemented thanks to the support of the international ALIPH Foundation and co-funding from the European Union, the SÄR Foundation and Danagul Tolepbay.
