By talking about what we eat, we reveal who we are, this is a conversation about how food reflects identity and the cultural diversity of Kazakhstan. Food is the simplest entry point into complex questions of identity and history. In this talk, we will explore the “melting pot” of the contemporary Kazakh feast, as well as a scholarly investigation into the history of “Qazaq et” and how it came to be known as “Beshbarmak.”
Participants
Larisa Pak - host of the podcast “Edible History of Kazakhstan”, documentary project Family Recipe DNA.
Aliya Bolatkhan - historian and anthropologist working at the intersection of archival research and fieldwork (doctoral researcher at the University of Zurich, Switzerland).
Katerina Suvorova - documentary film director, documentary project Family Recipe DNA.
